    A few miles down the road, Baltimore City opens a world of cultural and professional opportunities. Explore historic neighborhoods like Fells Point and Mount Vernon, cheer for the Orioles or Ravens, or immerse yourself in the city’s thriving arts scene. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and numerous other art and music venues make Baltimore a hub of creativity, while its eclectic food scene offers everything from waterfront seafood to seasonal and vegan-friendly options. More than just a destination, Baltimore is an extension of Goucher’s learning environment—students frequently engage with the city through internships and Community-based learning that deepen their academic experience.     Explore the east coast

    Only an hour away, Washington, DC, has history, politics, and culture. The Smithsonian’s 19 museums and galleries offer everything from natural history to cutting-edge space exploration, and admission is free. Whether you’re networking with professionals, securing an internship in nonprofits or politics, or taking in the city’s vibrant atmosphere, DC has plenty of opportunities.

    If you want to experience New York City, you’re just a three-hour train ride away. Walk through Central Park, take in Times Square, or go to a Broadway show. New York City offers an endless list of places to explore, making it the ultimate weekend adventure.

    And don’t forget Philadelphia—just under two hours away, the city is rich in culture, charm, and revolutionary history. See where the Declaration of Independence was signed, visit the Liberty Bell, or run up the “Rocky Steps.” It’s a great place for day trips.

    Getting Around

    Goucher College offers a variety of transportation options, including easy access by car, train, and public transit, making travel to and from campus convenient.

    Shuttles

    Free shuttles are available around Towson and downtown Baltimore.

    Use the Towson Loop to get around Towson.

    Using an MTA bus or the Light Rail, you can transfer to the free Charm City Circulatorat the Penn Station stop and use the Circulator to get around downtown Baltimore.

    MTA Bus

    The MTA has a few bus stops near campus in Towson. Please check the MTA website for maps and schedules.

    The campus Post Office, on the first floor of the Dorsey Center, offers MTA monthly passes at a discounted rate of $52.90 (regularly priced $72).

    Light Rail

    The Light Rail is a train that runs from the Hunt Valley shopping complex just north of Goucher through the heart of downtown Baltimore and out to BWI Airport south of the city. With stops at Penn Station, Camden Yards, and Ravens Stadium—plus many other destinations along the way—it can be a great way to get to places where the Collegetown Shuttle and the MTA bus don’t run.

    Goucher College has a partnership with Zipcar, a cost-efficient, environmentally friendly car-sharing program.
